Located on the northeast side of Belknap Campus, the Engineering Garage consists of two classrooms and a workshop area flanked by team cages and equipment. Students are given 24/7 access to the garage, its space and equipment. Engineering majors will complete coursework in the garage, providing an active learning environment and hands-on experience.

\n\nIt fosters that active learning environment. I'm the lead instructor for ENGR 111. It's all hands-on and workshop based. It's perfect, you couldn't do this course without this makerspace.\n\n

\n\nThat's what engineering is. You're always going to be looking at things dealing with things, hands-on. I don't see us doing activities like this outside of the garage.\n\n

\n\nIt's really good for group study, any type of group project. It's a good place to work on assembling things, or trying different things out, especially hands on components and projects. \n\n

\n\nWe use it year round as a workspace for most of the competitive engineering teams. I'm on the Baja team, we make off roading vehicles. A lot of the stuff we make, we couldn't really make anywhere else on campus.\n\n

\n\nWe have access to a plethora of different CNC manual machining equipment, as well as different welding equipment. We can have more advanced testing equipment, like a dyno.\n\n

\n\nEngineering Garage for River City Rocketry is the space that we meet, we build our rockets and that we're able to grow the team. Other teams look at our manufacturing processes and they are surprised by what we're capable of. Since we've moved into this engineering garage. What we've been able to do with the space here, with the tools available to us has made us a nationally recognized and now internationally recognized team. \n\n

\n\nYou can study. You can get away. You can focus on whatever it is you need to focus on, whether that be something that you're trying to use to push the limit of what your team can do, or something that you can do.\n\n

The Honors Program at the University of Louisville is a place for like minded students to get together and express similar ideas and achieve their goals.

Our students do enjoy the challenge of taking the honors courses and the extra workload that it sometimes implies.

You mostly attract the most high achieving students and honors because they want that experience and access to resources.

The honors program presents many opportunities, including scholarships, honor specific housing, smaller class sizes, and getting more connected with your professors.

Honors does a good job of walking the line of really efficient competitiveness. It's not a dog eat dog world, it's really like we're all here to help each other because that's the best way to grow.

I chose the University a little bit because I knew when coming on campus, I was right at home. And I knew I would enjoy being here, especially seeing all the student life and the diversity across campus.

I'm currently a senior 3D fine arts major with a focus in sculpture I chose U of L over everything else and honors because it gave me access to resources that I really feel I couldn't get anywhere else.

I'm a junior neuroscience major. I chose U of L, because there's a pretty thorough network of resources to sort of be successful in the neuroscience field, which I thought was pretty valuable.

With biology, I'm hoping to apply to medical school and eventually go to the University of Louisville medical school to become a doctor. Here on campus. I've gotten involved in Honors Student Council being an honors host and a Gen scholars as well.

Honors advising is comprehensive and quick, the most recent registration day I had a problem with to my classes, and I was able to get an advising appointment as early as an hour after registration opened, everything worked out perfectly with the honors courses just because of having the advisors there to kind of point me in the right direction.

The staff here at the university of Louisville have exceeded my expectations, they are always willing to help and reaching out providing multiple materials and sources to learn the coursework.

For with honors, you get a lot closer relationships since do your one on one class, you have your advisor as your mentor in that class, so you already get to know them and they know your face. So since you get to know your professor more, you're kind of less hesitant to reach out to them when you are struggling.

One of the benefits of the honors courses are being in a smaller class and being more one on one with your professor,

you can really find honors classes that are 15, if not even less sometimes, especially with honors seminars, a big benefit of the smaller class sizes I feel is that your professors can really dig into course material without worrying about 30-40 students having to all get the same message. It's just that you have a group of like 15-20, and it can all move faster and more cohesive and more in depth.

Well, honors courses may be small, the honors seminars are even smaller. So they may be even 10 or less.

Honors seminars sometimes offer a travel seminar. And if your honor scholar then that means you get even closer priority for those travel seminars. And those are great because they always offer a structured travel experience. So if you're like, \"I've never even left the state before I have no idea what I'm doing.\" That's such a safe and like welcoming environment to do your first study abroad trip with.

Being in an honors specific housing allows me to bounce off ideas for other people and get advice from people on other classes or opportunities available.

I don't think I've ever had an honors class where there wasn't a dedicated group where students were reminding each other of deadlines or pointing out different practice problems that really stuck out to them. And so when you have that, and when you can sort of get an idea of what other students are struggling with, you really stop feeling like you're the only one having a problem. So being able to, to communicate in that way really, like solved a lot of the sort of anxiety that came with first year and even in second year and beyond.

The community-first mentality is about reaching out and saying hi to people first. So freshmen get a really strong basis of knowing and understanding, you get the opportunity to say, \"Hey, I've seen this person in my class.\" So I know I could walk down to their room and knock on it and be like, \"Hey, I know we have that same class and you're free at this time. Do you want to hang out? Can you help me with a few questions that I have?\"

In the honors program, I've never really seen a person, not excel. And with that also comes the willingness to help younger people also do that. It can be sort of intimidating at first. And so having someone who has taken the course to help the younger people really find what they need to like get their groove in a class allows students with that mentality to continue to have that and to never miss an opportunity. There's never a week where I don't get something from honors saying, Here's a scholarship opportunity, or here's a program you might be interested in.

U of L is a breadbasket of opportunities. What you do is what you make of it, and there's always so many opportunities for working hard.

Hi, my name is Enid Trucios-Haynes and I'm the director of the Muhammad Ali Institute and a professor of law here at the University of Louisville. The Muhammad Ali Institut does a number of different things for our students. We have a Muhammad Ali Scholars Program, a two year program that provides a unique opportunity to learn about social justice and think about service to create community change. And it's a two year program and we have students who enter the program in their freshman or sophomore year. Another one of our major goals is to shepherd Muhammad Ali's legacy. So we conduct research, and work with colleagues across campus as well as with the Muhammad Ali center to advance Muhammad Ali's legacy. And we collaborate with our sister units here at the new office, and we are delighted to be in the company of such wonderful people who are doing great work here on campus for students.

Hi, I'm Johnesha, and you're in the living room. This is like the environment you want to be if you want to make friends, because always people just sitting in either the study rooms are like downstairs, just hanging out and having fun.

Within the first week, I learned so many different people that were like on my floor, and it was so easy and convenient that they were in the same class of me, we could study together in one of the study rooms.

For your freshman year, you'll most likely stay in either, Belknap Village North or South. South has like a basketball hoop. This is the traditional room. Half of the fun is just moving the furniture around, and it's newly renovated, and an open concept.

Typically gonna be two people in the room. Then at like, the end of the hall, there's gonna be different bathrooms, and they're gonna lock, kind of like a bathroom at your house. You can play your music, sing in the shower, all that sort of stuff. The other styles is like the suite styles, two people in one room, two people in another room, and then they're connected with a bathroom in between. Kurz Hall, it's gonna be sweet. Style, they have two person swings, which is great for conversation.

The Honors LLC is gonna be there if you're a first gen student, I highly recommend considering joining an LLC. LLC stand for Living Learning Communities. Being able to live in a community with people who have the same major as me was very helpful. And then there's also apartment style, like University Point. I love being so close to the food options, your classes. Every residence hall is gonna have different spots. We can hang out with friends. There's kitchens.

You can either see someone cooking and ask them, like, for a plate. Living on campus really got me out of my shell. It's definitely something for everyone.
